Broadcasting legend Jim McKay, right, talks to Art Popham during an event at the Tacoma Dome. McKay was host of ABC’s Wide World of Sports and 12 Olympics. Popham was the former public relations director for the Oakland Athletics, but spent nearly half of his life in Tacoma. He was the radio voice of the Tacoma Tigers, hosted radio and TV shows and wrote a column for The News Tribune. “I called him my multimedia man,” Popham’s wife, Kathy, said in a 2015 article on Marine View Presbyterian Church’s website. Art Popham died in 2002 at the age of 52.
