Tacoma broadcaster Art Popham (left), former radio voice of Tacoma minor league baseball, talks to ABC legend Jim McKay at the Tacoma Dome. Popham grew up in Kansas City where he was a bat boy for the Kansas City Athletics. By the age of 20 he was the A's public relations director. He moved to Oakland with the team before finding his destiny in Tacoma. He covered Tacoma Tigers, Yankees, Twins and Tugs games for KMO radio. With Doug McArthur, Popham hosted a radio show on Tacoma sports called "Live from the Leaf" on Friday nights, 1977-81. Popham went on to write a business column for The News Tribune.
Each year, the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber gives the Popham Award “Honoring the individual that has done the most to build community spirit.” Popham died in 2002 at the age of 52.Lexicon
