Bill McGovern (left) stands with three teammates from the 1943 Stadium High School's football team. Standing with McGovern, who is wearing a Stadium letterman's sweater, are Paul Boyle, Gary LaPore and Dick Salatino. Just a few weeks after playing his last football game for Stadium, McGovern suited up for the Washington Huskies for the Rose Bowl. Two weeks after playing against Lincoln High School on Dec. 2, 1943, McGovern enrolled into the University of Washington' service training program. On Jan. 1, 1944, a 17-year-old McGovern suited up for the Huskies Rose Bowl game against Southern Cal. The Huskies lost 29-0. He became the youngest player to play in the Rose Bowl and the first to play in both high school and college in the same season.Lexicon
