Description

Bill McGovern was a two-time, all-state selection when he played football for Stadium High School in the early 1940s. Because of World War II and the demands on recruiting into the military, McGovern became the first and only player to participate in high school and college football in the same season. In his senior year at Stadium he played both for the Tigers and then after enrolling in the University of Washington's service training program he was the Huskies backup tackle in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 1945 at age 17. He was the Huskies starting center and team captain in the fall of 1945.
