Luther Carr, third from the left, went on to star for the Huskies in football and track from 1956-58. Carr led the team in rushing as a sophomore with 469 yards and five touchdowns, then as a senior led the Huskies in receiving, punt returns and kickoff returns. He played for the Oakland Raiders in the American Football League in 1960 before a spinal injury ended his career. Cherberg coached the Huskies from 1953-55 and was Washington's lieutenant governor from 1957-89. Four other Lincoln players in the photo went to UW on football scholarships: Duane Lowell (second from left), Dennis Alder (sitting, fourth from left), Jack Walters (sitting, second from right) and Joe Williams (right). Carr was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005, Williams in 2010.
