Description

Five players on Lincoln High School's football team recruited by the University of Washington and offered scholarships in 1956. The players are from left to right Luther Carr, Jim Jones, Jim Heck, Duane Lowell and Bill Ochs. Carr, the oldest of nine children, was a four-sport star at Lincoln, setting state records in track and making all-state as a running back. As a sophomore at the UW, he led the Huskies in rushing (469 yards) touchdowns (five). As a senior, he also led the Huskies in receiving, punt returns and kickoff returns. He played briefly in the NFL with the Oakland Raiders in 1960 when a spinal injury ended his career. After playing fullback for the Huskies, Jones was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the third round in the 1958 NFL draft. He also played one game for the Oakland Raiders in 1961 and later played 15 games the BC Lions. Ochs transferred from the UW to the University of Puget Sound and played football there and after graduating was an educator in the Tacoma Public Schools for 32 years.
