Description

Team photo of Naval Reserve basketball team included Lincoln High’s Dale Larson, sixth from left, Jack Fabulich, seventh from left, and Buster Brouillet, 10th from left, in 1949. Larson was a 5-foot-10 guard who helped the team reach the state tournament under head coach Norm Mayer in 1947 as a senior. Fabulich was a versatile athlete for Puyallup High School. Fabulich was a track and field star, excelled in football and lettered in basketball. Fabulich finished second in state in the broad jump and anchored the state title-winning 880-yard relay team in 1946 when the Vikings won the state championship. Fabulich was a multi-event winner at the College of Puget Sound in the 440 and 880, starred in football and played on a star-studded Naval Training Center football team. He was also a basketball and fastpitch softball standout in Pierce County recreation leagues. Fabulich was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
