Pat McMcMurtry showers up and cleans his hair with shampoo after his fight with Ezzard Charles, the former world heavyweight champ who would be selected the pro boxing's hall of fame. The bought took place at the Lincoln Bowl in July 1956. It was one of McMurtry's biggest career wins and helped boost him to being the fifth ranked heavyweight in the world. McMurtry later had an opportunity to fight heavyweight champ Floyd Patterson, but McMurtry's father, Clarence, turned down the offer. Pat would later regret that decision. He could have been heavyweight champion of the world. After turning pro in 1954, McMurtry won his first 16 fights and finished with a 33-4-1 pro record. His career ended in 1960 when he was knocked out for 16 minutes in a fight against Eddie Machen in Portland, Oreg. But McMurtry continued to referee boxing and he died April 17, 2011 after a battle with liver cancer at age 79.Made/Created
