Description

In August 1956, a record Tacoma fight crowd of 11,095 jammed into Lincoln Bowl to watch Pat McMurtry's fight against Willie Pastrano. McMurtry, who graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949, lost a hard-fought, 10-round decision to Pastrano, who went on to become the world light heavyweight champ. McMurtry fought twice in Lincoln Bowl in the summer of 1956. Just the month prior to his fight with Pastrano, a crowd of 10,729 watched McMurtry defeat former heavyweight champ Ezzard Charles in a 10-round decision at Lincoln Bowl. A combined crowd of 21,734 watched those two fights in Lincoln Bowl.
