Description

In August 1956, Pat McMurtry's fight against Willie Pastrano drew 11,095 fans to their night fight in Lincoln Bowl. That summer McMurtry, the Northwest's most popular sports figure of the time, fought twice in Lincoln Bowl, drawing a combined 21,824 fans. In July that summer, McMurtry, a graduate from Lincoln High School, defeated former heavyweight champ Ezzard Charles in Lincoln Bowl. Pastrano, who was managed by the legendary Angelo Dundee, was a tough challenge and beat McMurtry and went on to be the world light heavyweight champ from 1963 to 1965.
