Description

In this black-and-white photo taken in 1956, Pat McMurtry is fighting Willie Pastrano, who was managed by the famous Angelo Dundee. McMurtry, who was one of the most famous sports figures in the Northwest during the 1950s, fought Pastrano in Tacoma's Lincoln Bowl. Fighting in front of 11,095 jubilant fans, McMurtry lost a tough 10-round decision to Pastrano. But McMurtry won his next five fights and climbed to No. 5 in the world rankings of heavyweight fighters.
