Description

Besides boxing, Pat McMurtry also liked to hunt deer. McMurtry holds a buck his shot at Blewett Pass in 1956. McMurtry, one of the best boxers to come out of Tacoma, had a 103-2 record as an amateur and 33-4-1 as a pro. When he turned pro in 1954, his dad, Clarence McMarty, who had fought as an amateur boxer, became his manager. A solid 6-foot-1, McMurtry had knockout power. He won 25 of his fights by technical knockouts. McMurtry and his brother, Mike, who is 14 months younger, have both been selected to the Tacoma-Pierce County's Sports Hall of Fame.
