Pat McMurtry (left) stands by the boxing arena at Portland Meadows where he was going to fight Bobo Olson in a professional heavyweight fight back in 1957. McMurtry dominated and won by a knockout. McMurtry, who was born in 1932 and grew up in Tacoma, was a top-ranked heavyweight in the late 1950s and was ranked as high as fifth in the world. McMurtry and his younger brother, Mike, are considered to be two of the best boxers to ever come out of Tacoma, They have both been inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame.
