Pat McMurtry (left) poses for a photo with Stan Naccarato, who is holding a boxing trophy and standing next to another unidentified man. After McMurtry's successful professional boxing career ended after getting knocked out in a fight in October 1959, he became a referee for amateur and professional boxing matches for many years. Naccarato, who played minor league baseball as a young man, was one of the most influential people in shaping sports in Tacoma. He was a successful businessman who loved sports. In 1971, Naccarato led the effort to save Class Triple A baseball in Tacoma.
