Description

Boxing legend Pat McMurtry (front, left) was one of the top ranked pro heavyweight boxers in the world during the 1950s. He sits among some famous names in Tacoma. From left to right standing, there's Bob Jackson, Russ Hodges, Ken Still, Mary Sears and Gordy Pfeifer. Pfeifer was a three-sport star at the University of Puget Sound in the 1960s, playing basketball, baseball and golf. The Seattle Pilots offered him a baseball contract in 1969 and he was named to the World All-Star baseball team in 1968 after hitting .833 in the national tournament. Still began his 20-year career with the PGA in 1960, winning three PGA events and the CBA Golf Classic in 1970. Jackson swam and played football at UPS and is the only NCAA Division II athlete to be named first-team All-American in football and swimming.
