Tacoma's Pat McMurtry, who was nicknamed Irish, stands among 22 other former boxers and they all are holding up a medallion they were presented. After a sensation amateur career when he compiled a 103-2 record, McMurtry turned pro in 1954 and won his first 16 fights and finished with a 33-4-1 record. Among his biggest wins, McMurtry defeated George Chuvalo in a nationally televised fights at New York's Madison Square Garden. McMurtry and his younger brother, Mike, are considered to be the best fighters to come out of Tacoma and they have both been inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame.
