Description

Following a workout, Pat McMurtry (far right) relaxes ringside with his father, Clarence McMurtry (far left) and Frank “Chi Chi” Britt. Pat McMurtry was one of the top ranked professional boxers in the world during the 1950s and his father was his promoter, negotiating his contracts. Because of a contract disagreement that his father had, Pat didn't fight Floyd Patterson in a heavyweight championship bout. It was a decision Pat later regretted. Britt was Pat's chief trainer during the 1950s. Pat and his younger brother Mike were introduced to boxing when they were five and seven years old. As kid growing up they would sometimes spare prior to local fights. Their father was a former amateur boxer.
