Description

The winners of the 1952 Intermountain Intercollegiate Boxing match in Pocatello, Idaho, stands Tacoma's Mike McMurtry (third from the right). McMurtry had an impressive amateur career, winning a NCAA title and fighting an impressive 210 bouts. His older brother, Pat McMurtry, fought professionally and was a top ranked heavyweight. The two brothers are considered to be two of the greatest fighters to come out of Tacoma and they've both been inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame.
