Tacoma's Mike McMurtry gets his photo taken among the other runners-up in the 1956 NCAA boxing championship while he attended Idaho State University. Earlier, McMurtry won a NCAA while boxing at the University of Gonzaga. From left to right on the top row: Walt Sabboth, Dick Wall, George Sisinni, Mike McMurtry, Billy Ray Smith, (bottom row) Willard Ira, Sammy Macias, David Laird, Joji Tomel, Dan Axtman. McMurtry was inducted in the Idaho State University's Sports Hall of Fame in 1981. McMurtry's older brother, Pat, was a top-ranked heavyweight contender in the 1950s.
