Description

The 1978 Pacific Lutheran University Lutes football team finished with a record of 6-3 and tied for second in the Northwest Conference with a 3-2 record. Legendary head coach Frosty Westering’s two sons, Brad (QB) and Scott (E) Westering played for their father. When Frosty retired in 2002 after 32 years and 262 wins at PLU, Scott succeeded him and served as head coach for 14 years, resigning in 2017. Frosty died in 2013. Senior linebacker John Zamberlin was named to the Associated Press Little All-America team. He played six years in the National Football League, four with the News England Patriots and two with the Kansas City Chiefs. The mug shot marked "Zamb" is Little All-American linebacker John Zamberlin. Zamberlin, a Wilson High School graduate, was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fifth round of 1979 NFL Draft. Zamberlin played for the Patriots (1979-82) and Kansas City Chiefs (1983). According to profootballreference.com, Zamberlin played in 78 NFL games, starting 25. His best season was 1980 when he started 13 games for the Patriots.
