Description

Billy Crook, left, and Bernie James, right, of the Tacoma Stars fight for a ball with a player from the Chicago Sting in this black and white photograph. The Stars were a professional major indoor soccer team that was in operation from 1983-1992 and played at the Tacoma Dome. The Stars became well known for their fan support. The team holds the record for highest attendance of an indoor soccer game when 21,728 fans came out to the Dome for Game 7 of the MISL Championship during the 1986-87 season against the Dallas Sidekicks. Tacoma lost to Dallas 4-3 in overtime. Tacoma also became the only team to defeat perennial champion San Diego Sockers in a playoff series. The Stars returned to the pitch, this time as a member of the PASL and won two Premier Championships in 2003-04. Tacoma moved to the Major Arena Soccer League in 2016 where the Stars currently play in the four-team Pacific Division. Photo donated by Marc Blau.
