Mark Peterson of the Tacoma Stars, right, shows Sean Brennan, left, and Brent Hundven, center, how to kick a soccer ball. Peterson played for the Stars from 1983-86, scoring 79 goals in 127 games. He also made six appearances with the U.S. men’s national team, tallying a lone goal. He was 19 when he debuted with the Sounders in 1980. He was runner-up in NASL Rookie of the Year voting and scored 14 goals during his time with the Sounders, which folded in 1983. The Tacoma native was a Wilson High graduate who also played soccer internationally, scoring two goals in a 3-0 win over Manchester in a 1982 friendly. Peterson was inducted into he Tacoma Athletic Commission Hall of Fame in 2005 and was awarded a Golden Scarf from the Seattle Sounders. After his career ended, Peterson went on to coach at the North Tacoma Soccer Club, Sparta America and was a founding member of the Sparta Premier Soccer program.
