Five women on a bowling team from Tacoma posed for this photo taken in 1951 at a bowling tournament in Seattle. Bowling for women was popular the 1950s in Tacoma. Worldwide, the Women's International Bowling Congress (WIBC) grew into the world's largest women's organizations by 1979 with 4,200,000 members. Bowling became the most popular participant sport in the United States until 1980 when turnout started to decline.
