Tacoma's Ruggles Larson (right) was fighting in this 1953 black-and-white picture for the Marine Barracks Treasure Island and he was fighting Jacob Carr of Camp Pendleton. Larson won a three-round decision. While serving in the Marine Corp, Larson, a 1952 Lincoln High School graduate, won the Pacific West All-Marine corps title at 132 pounds in 1954 and the 12th Naval District title at the same weight in 1955. While attending the College of Puget Sound and Western Washington College, he fought professionally for two years to help pay for his schooling and he and had six wins, a loss and two draws. He took classes at Washington State College, San Francisco City College, and College of Puget Sound before earning his bachelor's degree and then earning his teaching certificate from Western Washington College.Lexicon
