Description

Ruggles Larson fought on the boxing teams at Washington State College in 1952 and at Gonzaga University in 1950. In his 11-year boxing career, he finished with a 93-23-3 amateur record. He fought in the Tacoma Golden Gloves and in the Diamond Belt tournaments in Tacoma and had a 7-4-3 record. While boxing in the military, Larson won the West All-Marine Corps title at 132 pounds in 1954 and the 12th Naval District crown in 1955. But boxing wasn't his only passion. He ran in the first Sound to Narrows run in 1973 and ran in more than 700 road races. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Tacoma Athletic Commission's Doug McArthur Lifetime Achievement Award.
