Description

George Wright, who was nicknamed “Sonny,” was a solid, “crowd pleasing” middleweight from Tacoma. Wright was 22 years old in this photo, was a Washington State middleweight champion and he later became a trainer for some talented boxers like Sugar Ray Seales, who won a Gold Medal in the Olympics. Wright was named to the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame. Wright was 6-1 ½ feet tall and weighed 160 pounds when he boxed. He was managed and trained by Bobby Richards.
