Description

While taking classes at Washington State College in the 1950s, Ruggles Larson was on the school's boxing team. Larson, a 1952 graduate from Lincoln High School, began an 11-year boxing career in 1947 and in 119 amateur fights he won 93, lost 23 and had three draws. In a tough fight, Larson lost a three-round split decision to Len Walters, who would later complete in the Olympics for Canada. Larson had knocked Walters to the canvas but the Canadian was saved by the bell at the count of nine and rallied to beat Larson. For his commitment to boxing, Larson was the TAC Dough McArthur Lifetime Achievement Award.
