Description

This autographed baseball is from the 1961 season of the Tacoma Giants who played in the Pacific Coast League. The Giants won the Pacific Coast League pennant that season under manager John “Red” Davis. It was just their second season playing in the newly built Cheney Stadium, which was named after Ben Cheney. That Tacoma Giants team had an outstanding pitching rotation that included Gaylord Perry, Ron Herbel and Eddie Fisher and that team finished with a 97-57 record. Player autographs on this baseball include Dick Gernert, Dusty Rhodes, Gil Garrido, Ron Herbel, Dick LeMay, Neil Wilson, Jose Cardenal, Tom Arruda, Bob Perry, Jerry Thomas, Verle Tiefenthaler, Dick Phillips, Julio Navarro, Johnny Weekly, Ricardo Joseph, Gaylord Perry, Leo "Doc" Hughes (trainer), Frank Reviera, Danny Rivas, Faye Throneberry, John Goetz, Bill Hain, Don Carlson, and Red Davis (manager). Verle Tiefenthaler autographed this baseball but he did not play on this team. It was near the end of Dusty Rhodes' career, who had an impressive seven-year major league career. He had some starring moments for the New York Giants in 1954 and during the World Series.
