The Tacoma Giants team autographed this baseball in 1963. Tacoma's current Pacific Coast League team was founded in 1960, the same year Cheney Stadium was built. Tacoma got a Triple-A team in 1960 when the Phoenix Giants, a minor league affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, moved to Tacoma and became the Tacoma Giants. On April 16, 1960, the Tacoma Giants won their first game in Cheney Stadium, beating Portland 11-0. Juan Marichal, a future major league hall of famer, picked up the win that game as he pitched the team's first shutout. Next year, the 1961 Tacoma Giants finished 97-57 on a team led by Gaylord Perry, Ron Herbel, Eddie Fisher and Dick Phillips.
