Description

Baseball in the 1990 Goodwill Games was played in Tacoma's Cheney Stadium. Here is an autographed baseball from those Goodwill Games. The Goodwill Games were created by businessman Ted Turner. They were held in 1990 from July 20 to August 5 and they were hosted in cities across Washington, held in Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane and the Tri-Cities. About 2,300 athletes from 54 countries competed in the Goodwill Games that year. The Cuban national team won the baseball championship, beating the USA team 16-2 in the semifinals. The United States baseball team placed third. Turner created the Goodwill Games after the U.S. boycotted the 1980 Olympics in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. The 1994 Goodwill Games were held in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The first edition of the Goodwill Games were held in 1986 in Moscow.
