Description

Joan Schenke, photographed here whens she was 8-years old, was one of the top performers at the Lakewood Ice Arena’s Lakewood Figure Skating Club. Schenke began taking lessons at the ice arena by age eight. Schenke’s natural talent, and coaching from John Johnsen, went on to garner a 1956 U.S. Junior National Championship, and was runner-up to Carol Heiss in the Senior Ladies Division the following year. Schenke also finished third in the North American Championships and was seventh in the World Championships.
