Description

Marv Harshman wore this warm-up jersey when he played basketball for Pacific Lutheran College's basketball team back in the 1938-39 season. After playing football, basketball, baseball and track at Pacific Lutheran, he began his illustrious collegiate coaching career at his alma mater after serving three years in the navy during World War II. From PLC, he moved on to coach basketball at Washington State University in 1958 and then at the University of Washington in 1971 and coached there until 1985. In his 40 years as a college basketball coach, Harshman compiled a 634-444 career record. Harshman, who was born in 1917 and died in 2013, retired from coaching the Huskies in 1985 after winning back-to-back conference championships and reaching the NCAA tournament. He compiled impressive records at each of the three colleges he coached. At PLC, he went 236-117. At WSU, he went 155-181 and at the UW he went 246-146.
