Thanks to Ben Cheney, young boys ages 12 to 15 where able to play for the Cheney Studs Courteers and wear jerseys like this and put on a humorous and entertaining halftime shows at high school and college basketball games. Cheney was a successful businessman and a sports enthusiast who financially supported teams like the Cheney Studs Courteers. Cheney, who built a successful lumber business, supported teams in all the towns in which he had businesses. Cheney was also a big supporter of the Tacoma Rainiers and gave $100,000 to help build the team's baseball stadium in 1960 and that is now named after him.
