Description

Six athletes, including Clover Park's Mac Wilkins, right, stand on the podium after the discus competition at a high school track and field meet. Wilkins went on to star at the University of Oregon, the last thrower coached by legendary Bill Bowerman, who was a co-founder of Nike. Wilkins reset the world discus record three times at a single meet in San Jose, California, in 1976. Wilkins won the gold medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, the silver at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and took fifth at the 1988 Seoul, South Korea, Olympics. Wilkins also won the gold medal at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Wilkins, who set the world record in the discus four times, was inducted into the U.S. Track and Field Hall of Fame.
