Description

This American Football League plaque with the AFL logo on it was presented to Milt Woodard, who served as the league’s president from 1966-70 and played a key role in the AFL’s merger with the National Football League (NFL), Woodard was born in Tacoma in 1911 and graduated from Stadium High School and the College of Puget Sound (now University of Puget Sound), where he played baseball. Woodard worked as a sports writer for the Tacoma News Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times before serving as assistant commissioner of the AFL from 1960-66. Woodard was inducted into the Washington Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
