At age 22, Nelson Hong joined the Tacoma News Tribune reporting staff in 1924. Six years later in 1930, he became the TNT's sports editor and served in that position for seven years. Hong, who was born in 1902 and lived most of his life in Tacoma, was a longtime supporter of local sports and his commitment went beyond writing or covering local sports. During the 1930s, he helped reorganize the Tacoma city baseball league and he also served as the first secretary of the Western International League in 1937. Then in 1938 and 1939, he worked as the business manager of the Tacoma Tigers minor league baseball team. Later in his life, Hong, who was born in 1902 and was the son of a professor at Pacific Lutheran College, got involved in politics and served in various roles with the Washington Travel Bureau, the Olympic Ice Company and the South Tacoma Boys Club. He died in 1951 at age 49.Lexicon
