Description

Franklin Pierce High School's 1964-65 boys basketball season is commemorated by this collage of individual photos of the team and coaches as well as lists of their season scores. The Cardinals won the Puget Sound League championship that season, 44-42 over Renton (although the score on this document incorrectly shows 44-22). They then lost two close games in the regional round of the Class 4A (large school) state tournament (the only other classifications at the time were 1A and 2B) -- 43-41 to Queen Anne of Seattle (now defunct) and 56-52 to Mount Tahoma of Tacoma. At the time only the four regional winners advanced to the state finals at the Seattle Coliseum. Individual photos are of (L-R) top row: Jerry Yurovchak, Rick Payne, Al Kollar, Ed Imhof, Tom Yotty and Bob Pederson; middle row: staff member Steve Helt, assistant coach Eldon Kyllo, head coach Del Schafer and manager Jim Whitesel; front row: Mark Pedersen, John Yurovchak, Chuck Holmquist, Ken Spoerl, Randy Lumsden, Gordy Hansen and Ken Anderson.
