Description

This collage features the 1959-60 Franklin Pierce High School boys basketball team, which finished seventh in the Class 4A (large-school) state tournament at the University of Washington (the only other classifications at the time were 1A and 2B). It was the first state basketball trophy in school history as the Cardinals finished 2-2 (they beat Bothell, lost to Central Valley of Spokane Valley, beat Richland to clinch a trophy and then lost to Garfield). Coach Del Schafer is in the center of the collage, flanked on the left by assistant coach Ed Brown and on the right by team manager Mike George. Team members are (L-R) at top: Jerry Manley, Ken Southall, Jon Malmin, Gary Rihtarich and Rick Smidt; at bottom:Jay Kinsley, Tom Tommervik, Joe Mancuso, Jim Mancuso and Tom Parkhurst.
