Description

The 1958-59 Franklin Pierce High School boys basketball team (pictured here) qualified for the 4A state tournament at the University of Washington (there were just three classifications at the time, the others being 1A and 2B). The Cardinals won their opening game against Lewis & Clark of Spokane, then lost to Burlington-Edison and Ballard to finish one game short of a trophy. Coach Del Schafer is shown at the far left and is flanked by (L-R) Rick Smidt, Gary Rihtarich, Ken Southall, Reynoir Peterson, Larry Carlson, Jon Malmin, Bud Hellwich, Jerry Manley, Graham Rolstad, Eddie Dammel, Joe Zaspel and Ed Brown.
