Description

After graduating from Puyallup High School, Ray Barnes accepted a football scholarship to the University of Washington. In 1949, Barnes played in the old State verses Seattle football game as an all-star. Barnes played two years at the UW and then ended up transferring to the Pacific Lutheran College and earned honorable mention Little All-American playing left guard on offense and nose tackle on defense. Barnes became a successful wrestling coach at Puyallup High School from 1956-70, building a 115-36 record in dual matches. Barnes, who graduated from Puyallup High School in 1949, was inducted into the state's wrestling coaches hall of fame in 1986.
