Description

After graduating from Puyallup High School, Ray Barnes accepted a football scholarship to the University of Washington. In 1949, Barnes played in the old State verses Seattle football game as an all-star. Barnes played two years at the UW and then ended up transferring to the Pacific Lutheran College and earned honorable mention Little All-American playing left guard on offense and nose tackle on defense. Barnes became a successful wrestling coach at Puyallup High School from 1956-70, building a 115-36 record in dual matches. Barnes, who graduated from Puyallup High School in 1949, was inducted into the state's wrestling coaches hall of fame in 1986. He was inducted into the state's Athletic Director's Hall of Fame in 1991. The top row of headshots are named: L-R: Fritz Apking, Raymond Barnes, Neil Boyd, Dave Hughes, Erling Johnson, c. 1952.
