On Sept. 1, 1963, Jerry Thomas hurled a seven-inning no-hitter for the Tacoma Giants in the second game of a doubleheader against the Denver Bears. The first no-no was tossed by Dick LeMay in 1962.
Thomas played three season in Tacoma—1962, 1963 and 1964. He holds the top two spots for the Most Games Started in a Single Season with 34 in 1962 and 33 in 1963. Jerry is tied with Eddie Bane for second in Tacoma’s all-time history with 88 games started in his career, behind Ron Herbel, the all-time leader with 110 games over four seasons.
In his first season with Tacoma, Jerry had a won-lost record of 13-9 with 130 strikeouts and a 3.75 ERA. That performance earned him the Rookie of the Year Award from the Tacoma Athletic Commission. He followed that up the next year by going 16-12 with 127 K’s and an ERA of 3.58. In Thomas’ final season for Tacoma he went 7-10 with a 3.70 ERA and 97 strikeouts. His three-year total was 36 wins, 31 losses and 354 strikeouts.Lexicon
