Description

An Olympic medallion from the 1972 Munich Summer Games was presented to Tacoma native and Stadium High graduate Chuck Richards. Richards went on to attend Indiana University where he starred on the swim team and was a two-time All-American. He won the 1967 U.S. Pentathlon Junior title and went on to win the modern pentathlon titles in 1970-72 to become the U.S. champion. Richards won the CISM title in 1969, 1971 and 1972. He joined the U.S. Army after college and competed in the Olympics where he finished fourth. Olympic pentathlon events include fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian show jumping and a final combined event of pistol shooting and cross country running. He was inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of fame in 2005.
