Description

Mel Maughey gets his picture taken sitting in his midget racing car (on the left). Midget car racing was a popular sport in the Tacoma area for a long time. In 1956, Dick Boness built a paved, quarter-mile oval track, the Spanaway Speedway. The track was in continuous use for almost 50 years.
