Description

With the grandstands packed with fans, an official waves a checkered flat to start a midget auto race in Tacoma. The oval, quarter-mile track was one of the most popular tracks in the country. The NASCAR and USAC (which is now IndyCar) had sanctioned races at the track for decades. Today a housing development is built on the site and all that remains of the Spanaway Speedway built by Dick Boness in 1956 are memories.
