Here is a golf trophy in the shape of a pitcher was awarded in the 1970s to the winners of a local women's golf tournament. Over the years there's been lots of talented women golfers coming out of Tacoma. Marjorie Shanaman was one of the first as she won the Tacoma County and Golf Club women's club championship in 1927 and 1928 when she was still just a teenager. At age 18, she won Tacoma's club championship for the first time. Shirley Baty won the state women's amateur golf championship in 1961. Joan Mahon Allard was a six-time winner of the Tacoma women's Golf Association amateur championship and a three-time winner of the state women's public lings championship. In 1971, Allard shot a hole-in-one on the sixth hole at the Pacific Northwest Golf Association tournament at the Tacoma Golf and Country Club. She is the first woman to shoot a hole-in-one in a PNGA tournament.
