Description

Mel Maughey sits in his midget race car No. 56 as he's being pushed by an auto service track. Maughey owned about six midget race cars and was an avid racer. Midget car racing had its first race in 1933 at a track at Loyola High School in Los Angeles and by the late 1940s Tacoma had its own race track for racing for midget cars.
