Description

Charles Congdon, who used this golf bag, was a pro golfer from Tacoma for four decades, spanning the 1930s to the 1960s. Congdon, who was born in 1909 and died in 1965, was the club pro at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club from 1935 to 1965. Congdon had two PGA wins, winning the Portland Open Invitational in 1947 and the Canadian Open in 1948. From 1936 to 1963, he won 12 tournaments in the Pacific Northwest. He was the vice president of the PGA of America from 1955 to 1957, and he was the president of the Pacific Northwest Section PGA for three terms. The Pacific Northwest Section PGA selected him golf pro of the year. He was inducted into their hall of fame in 1981 and the State of Washington Sports hall of fame in 1978. He's also been inducted into the Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Hall of Fame.
