Description

With other drivers getting their cars ready, Mel Maughey sits in his No. 7 midget race car. Maughey had about eight midget race cars and was a regular driver in Tacoma races. Tacoma was a popular site for midget car races. Dick Boness built a paved, oval quarter-mile track on South Sprague back in 1956 and operated it for 42 years. Boness also built the Tenino Speedway. The golden era of the midget car racing was the 1950s and 1960s.
