With his hands on the sheering wheel, Mel Maughey sits in his No. 27 midget race car posing for a picture prior to a race. Tacoma was a popular place for midget race car events and Maughey was a frequent entrant. He had about six midget race cars. Midget cars are very small with a very high power-to-weight ratio and typically use four cylinder engines. The first races were in the United States in California and are now held in Australia and New Zealand.Lexicon
