Description

A collection of framed photographs and newspaper clippings mark the historic day of Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr.’s one and only appearance with the Tacoma Rainiers during a rehab assignment on August 13, 1995. Griffey was recovering from a broken wrist suffered in May and was the designated hitter against the Edmonton Trappers. The 1995 season was the first year the Rainiers played as the AAA affiliate to the Seattle Mariners. Griffey was drafted by the Mariners in 1987 and made his Major League debut on April 3, 1989. He went on to an illustrious MLB career as a center fielder appearing in 13 All-Star Games, winning the All-Star MVP in 1992, was named the 1997 AL MVP, 10 Gold Gloves, seven Silver Sluggers, in 2,671 games. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016.
